Uncle Boon
“I am not a Christian!” The curt reply was loud and clear when Dr. Lim KG, a Gideon of Taiping, Malaysia, tried to hand over a New Testament to a resident of St. John Nursing Home during the Malaysia International Scripture Blitz. However, when it was made known the New Testaments were free and no one was forcing anyone to take a copy of the Scripture, Uncle Boon (Ch’ng Kim Boon) relented and accepted one. Uncle Boon was not in such a good mood that day. His left leg had been recently amputated due to diabetes, and he was consequently confined to a wheelchair.
The hospital Scriptures being passed out did not have a salvation page, so Dr. Lim included a photocopy of the page with each New Testament he passed out. A few days after his visit to the nursing facility, Dr. Lim received a surprising call. Boon had been reading the salvation notes and wanted to be taken to a church to worship God. After sometime, Uncle Boon was not only attending church every week, he was also inviting other people from the nursing facility to join him.
Many text messages were exchanged between Uncle Boon and Dr. Lim. One day, while referring to the message of forgiveness Jesus gave in John 8 and 1 John 1:9, Boon texted, “Lord Jesus, I am a sinner, I confess my sin and trust in You.” Uncle Boon had at last embraced Jesus Christ as his personal Savior. He was baptized in June 2012. He had certainly received redemption, salvation, and sanctification as he wrote in a text message on July 28, 2012, “ The power of Satan is no match over the power of God’s Word.”
Uncle Boon departed to be with our Lord at 9 p.m.on October 16, 2012.
