An Enthusiastic Welcome For God’s Word In Mozambique
In October, an international team of six Gideons from the USA, Australia, Germany and South Africa partnered with local Gideons in Mozambique to conduct a one-week International Scripture Blitz (ISB) in the city of Beira.
The theme for the blitz was, “And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent,” (John 17:3).
Beira’s pastors were excited about the blitz. One told the Gideons that his church had been praying for years that the Word of God would come to the people of Beira. He said that the blitz was the answer to their prayers. Another pastor shared how it was important for someone other than himself to come and speak the same gospel message, so that people know he is preaching the truth. He told the Gideons that their presentation of the Scriptures confirmed his message.
All of the distributions took place at schools and universities. And the students expressed great excitement about receiving God’s Word.
“The gracious appreciation and acceptance of Scriptures touched the hearts of the team,” said the ISB leader, Geoffrey Severin. Throughout the distributions, the Scriptures were received along with energetic applause.
One student was so grateful for a copy of God’s Word that he told the Gideons, “This is the best day of my life! Thank you for coming today.”
A principal told them, “Jesus is coming soon, be quick.”
By the end of the blitz, Gideons had distributed 50,000 copies of God’s Word at 52 schools and 2 universities.
Returning home, one Gideon reflected on how participating in the Mozambique ISB was a life-changing experience. “You leave with a piece of the culture as part of your frame of reference and contemplate how great is our God. There is so much more out there we cannot comprehend,” he said.
We thank the Gideons who participated in this blitz, as well as the supporters who made this ISB possible. And of course, we give all glory to God for the many souls we pray will be saved as a result of these distributions.
