Lives Changed by God’s Word
The message of hope through Jesus Christ has the unique ability to transform lives in ways no other book can. We believe you’ll be inspired by the testimonies of these individuals whose lives were radically changed after they encountered a copy of God’s Word, provided through The Gideons.
Saraswathy received a Testament from The Gideons while in boarding school in South India. Feeling lonely, she began reading it and found comfort and truth. Her questions about God led to deep conversations, and she began secretly attending church—despite her father’s strong opposition. She stood firm in her faith, was later baptized, and now serves as a government school headmistress and Auxiliary member. That Testament, she says, led her to Christ and changed her life.

As a student, Barbara received a Testament from The Gideons at Dietrich Elementary. Decades later, after a night of drinking and deep despair, she considered suicide. Remembering that Testament as a “road map for life,” she read it cover to cover before making any decision. By morning, she had sobered up, felt hope, and sold her gun. She says that Testament saved her life—and she’ll never forget the gift of God’s Word.

While battling alcoholism, an attorney named Ben stayed in his Washington, D.C., hotel room instead of going to the bar. Finding only static on TV, he opened the bedside drawer and discovered a Bible from The Gideons. That night, he “relearned” John 3:16. Back home, Ben began reading Scripture and sharing it with others. On January 31, 1978, he received Jesus as his Savior. Years later, a man he’d shared a Bible with also came to faith—both journeys sparked by that hotel room Bible.

Haingo was an atheist and street magician who burned Scriptures he received from Gideons—except one. He kept a copy to help him learn English, but as he read it, the Holy Spirit touched his heart. Haingo surrendered his life to Jesus Christ and later became a passionate pastor in the town of Vatomandry, Madagascar. What began as a tool for language learning became the spark of his salvation. Glory to God for his transformed life!
