Kinshasa, the capital of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), has a population of 17 million people and is the second most populous city in Africa. Although the country claims 95% of the people identify with Christianity, only 20% consider themselves evangelical Christians. Despite these differences, people all around the city received the Word of God with open arms during our blitz in the region.
Early in the blitz, it was discovered that the hotel where the international team was staying did not have Bibles in the rooms. Local Gideons confirmed that they had never been allowed to place them there. A meeting was held with the manager, and prayers were answered as Gideons were permitted to place Bibles in every room. Praise God!
Here are more powerful testimonies of God’s work drawing people to Christ:
God’s Word and Faithful Witness Leads Simon to the Lord
At the close of the day, two distribution teams met at a university to finish the previous day’s distribution. Simon, a photographer walking the grounds, asked for a New Testament. While going through the Helps section and the Plan of Salvation with a Gideon, Simon prayed to receive Jesus as the Lord of his life!
Five Students Receive Christ after Hearing the Gospel
At one school distribution, a few students arrived early and gathered in groups in multiple places. We distributed a New Testament to each student. One of the Gideons, named Joey, noticed a group of five students with their New Testaments open, trying to understand it. Joey approached the students along with his interpreter, who happened to be a pastor, and was able to share the Gospel with them. He went through the Plan of Salvation with them together as a group. All five students prayed to receive Jesus Christ.
Transformed by a Witness of God’s Love
Near one of the university entrances, Jeanabi, a young motorcycle taxi driver, was watching the blitz from a distance. One Gideon felt prompted to talk with him. When the Gideon asked him if he knew that God loved him, Jeanabi said, “I have heard.” The Gideon then walked him through the plan of salvation. Jeanabi was eager to receive Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior.
Thank you for your prayers and gifts that equip Gideons to share the Gospel with people the world over. We are deeply grateful for your commitment and pray that your partnership with us will continue to help lead the lost to Christ.
